Aerodrome is the dominant DEX on Base (Coinbase’s L2), launched in 2023 as a Velodrome fork. AERO is the governance token. Inherits the ve(3,3) model — vote-escrowed AERO holders direct emissions and capture trading fees plus bribes.
How it actually works
Same ve mechanics as Velodrome. Strong adoption since Base launch with Aerodrome routinely ranking as the highest-volume DEX on Base. Multiple memecoin and consumer-app launches use Aerodrome pools for initial liquidity. Slipstream — concentrated liquidity — added in 2024.
What it means for you
For Base ecosystem participation, Aerodrome is the primary DEX. veAERO yields have historically been among the strongest in EVM DeFi. For HNW positioning, Base + Aerodrome ecosystem deserves attention as Base’s consumer adoption continues to grow on Coinbase distribution.
