Plain English

Blast is an Ethereum L2 launched in 2024 by Tieshun Roquerre (Pacman). Differentiator: bridged ETH automatically earns staking yield (~3%), and bridged USDC/USDT auto-earns Treasury yield (~4%) — passive returns simply for holding on Blast. BLAST token airdropped in mid-2024.

How it actually works

ETH on Blast is automatically rehypothecated into Lido staking; stablecoins go into MakerDAO’s on-chain treasury yield. Optimistic rollup architecture. Initial launch had centralization concerns (admin keys could mint Blast ETH), gradually being decentralized.

What it means for you

Blast’s native-yield model is novel and attractive — you earn yield just by holding, no DeFi navigation required. For HNW users, this is operationally simpler than separately staking/lending. The trade-off is L2 maturity — Blast is newer and smaller than top-tier L2s. Size positions accordingly.
