Plain English

Axelar is a Cosmos-based blockchain that provides cross-chain messaging and asset transfers. Connects Ethereum, all major L2s, Cosmos chains, Avalanche, Polygon, and 60+ chains. AXL is the staking and governance token. Competes with LayerZero and Wormhole for messaging infrastructure.

How it actually works

Uses a permissioned validator set with stake-weighted voting on cross-chain transactions. ITS (Interchain Token Service) provides programmable cross-chain token issuance. Used by major institutional projects (JPMorgan Onyx, Microsoft) for cross-chain pilots.

What it means for you

Axelar is the cross-chain infrastructure most-favored by enterprise/institutional deployments. For HNW users, AXL is another leveraged play on cross-chain growth. As infrastructure, Axelar is less visible to end users than the bridges built on it.
