Plain English
Bitcoin Cash is a 2017 hard fork of Bitcoin created by participants who wanted larger blocks to enable cheap on-chain payments. It increased Bitcoin’s 1MB block size to 32MB. The original chain (BTC) prioritized layered scaling (Lightning); BCH chose on-chain scaling.
How it actually works
Same proof-of-work, same 21M supply cap as Bitcoin, but with larger blocks and additional features (CashTokens for token issuance, smart-contract upgrades). The 2018 fork split BCH further into BCH and BSV. The chain has lower hashrate than BTC, making it theoretically less secure against attack.
What it means for you
BCH is a conservative payment-focused crypto. For HNW positioning, it is less interesting than the broader Bitcoin layered ecosystem (BTC + Lightning + Ordinals + Stacks). The thesis depends on belief that on-chain payments will dominate over Layer 2 scaling — a minority view in the market today.
