Plain English

Brave Wallet is the built-in self-custody wallet inside the Brave privacy browser. No extension needed — runs natively in the browser. Supports Ethereum, all major L2s, Solana, Filecoin, and Bitcoin (read-only initially, full support added later).

How it actually works

Open-source, multi-chain self-custody. Uses the browser’s native security primitives rather than extension-based isolation. Built-in token swaps via 0x and Jupiter. Integrates with the Brave Rewards system (BAT token earnings for viewing privacy-respecting ads).

What it means for you

Brave Wallet is appealing for users already running Brave for privacy reasons — one fewer extension to install, integrated with browser security model. For desktop power-users with multiple wallets, the lack of cross-browser portability (it only works in Brave) is a limitation. Pairs well with hardware wallets for actual cold storage.
