Plain English

KuCoin is a global crypto exchange founded in 2017, based in Seychelles. Known for early altcoin listings before other major venues. Issues KCS (KuCoin Token) which entitles holders to a share of exchange trading-fee revenue. Settled with US DOJ in early 2025 for $297M over BSA violations.

How it actually works

Spot fees start at 0.1%, discounted with KCS holdings and trading volume. Supports 700+ tokens — significantly broader listing breadth than Binance or Coinbase. KCS holders receive daily bonus payments from 50% of exchange trading fees. Required to exit US market following DOJ settlement; remains accessible in most other jurisdictions.

What it means for you

KuCoin is the go-to venue for accessing smaller-cap altcoins before they reach top exchanges. For HNW altcoin allocators, it expands the investable universe — but liquidity on long-tail listings can be thin. Use measured sizing on the deep altcoin pairs; main pairs (BTC, ETH, SOL) have normal CEX-tier depth.
