Plain English
L2Beat is the standard reference for Ethereum Layer 2 data — TVL, transaction throughput, fees, and most importantly risk classifications. Founded in 2021 by a community of researchers. Free, open-source, no token. Independent from any L2.
How it actually works
Categorizes L2s by Stage (0, 1, 2) reflecting decentralization maturity, training-wheel removal, and exit mechanism robustness. Detailed risk diagrams for each rollup show state validation, data availability, sequencer setup, and proposer mechanism. Updated continuously as L2s upgrade their security models.
What it means for you
For HNW users deploying capital on L2s, L2Beat is essential for understanding the actual security model of each rollup. The “Stage” classification is the cleanest summary — Stage 1 and 2 mean materially less trust assumptions than Stage 0. Before bridging significant funds, check the L2’s L2Beat page for current risk posture.
