Plain English

PYUSD is a USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Paxos Trust under contract with PayPal. Launched on Ethereum in 2023 and Solana in 2024. Reserves consist of US Treasury bills, repos, and cash deposits — published monthly with audit attestations.

How it actually works

Paxos issues and redeems PYUSD 1:1 against USD. Regulated as a New York limited-purpose trust company under NYDFS. PayPal integrates PYUSD directly in the PayPal and Venmo apps, enabling P2P transfers, payments to merchants, and on-ramps to crypto exchanges. Solana version emphasizes payments and remittances.

What it means for you

PYUSD is the most consumer-distributed regulated stablecoin. For HNW positioning, it competes with USDC for the “regulated, transparent reserves, instantly redeemable” niche. The PayPal integration creates real on-ramp/off-ramp utility for retail users that other stablecoins lack.
