RSK (Rootstock) is a Bitcoin sidechain that brings EVM smart contracts to Bitcoin, launched in 2018. Merge-mined with Bitcoin for shared security. RBTC is the native gas token, pegged 1:1 to BTC via the PowPeg federation.

How it actually works

EVM-compatible — Ethereum contracts can be deployed with minimal changes. Bitcoin miners earn additional revenue by merge-mining RSK. RIF (Rootstock Infrastructure Framework) is the native token for the broader RSK ecosystem. Smaller TVL than Ethereum L2s but the only major EVM-on-Bitcoin platform.
