Plain English

Aptos is a proof-of-stake L1 launched in 2022 by former Meta engineers from the Diem (Libra) project. It uses the Move programming language — designed specifically for digital assets with resource-oriented safety. APT is the native token.

How it actually works

Aptos uses Block-STM, a parallel execution engine that processes transactions concurrently when they don’t conflict. Sub-second block times, low fees. The Move language provides strong safety guarantees against common bugs in EVM contracts. Validator set is permissionless with stake-weighted leader election.

What it means for you

Aptos competes directly with Sui and Solana for high-throughput applications. For HNW positioning, APT is a bet on Move-based developer adoption — a relatively small but growing camp. Native yield from staking is ~7% in 2026.
