Plain English

Aztec is a privacy-focused L2 on Ethereum, using zk-SNARK proofs to keep transaction data confidential while inheriting Ethereum security. Allows private DeFi — sending tokens, swapping, lending — without revealing balances, parties, or amounts on the public chain.

How it actually works

The original Aztec Network closed in 2023; Aztec Connect ended in 2024. Aztec is now building Aztec V3 (mainnet expected 2025+) with a redesigned architecture supporting general programmable privacy via Noir, their domain-specific language for ZK programs.

What it means for you

Aztec represents the long-term direction of crypto privacy — programmable, ZK-based, and built into the L2 layer rather than as a separate mixer. For HNW users planning long-term privacy strategies, Aztec V3 is one to watch. Production capability remains limited until V3 launches.
