Plain English
Etherscan is the dominant Ethereum block explorer, founded in 2015. The default reference for looking up any Ethereum address, transaction, contract, or token. Free public access; paid API for developers. Operates similar explorers for L2s (Arbiscan, Optimism Etherscan, BaseScan) and other EVM chains.
How it actually works
Indexes every block, transaction, internal call, event log, and contract source on Ethereum. Contract verification lets developers publish source code matching deployed bytecode — essential for trust. Token Approval Checker helps users audit and revoke permissions granted to contracts.
What it means for you
Every HNW DeFi user should be comfortable reading Etherscan. Before approving a token spend, check the contract on Etherscan: is it verified? Who deployed it? Recent activity? Periodically use the Token Approval Checker to revoke old permissions you no longer need — a critical security hygiene practice.
