Plain English

BitPay is one of the longest-running crypto payment processors, founded in 2011. Lets merchants accept Bitcoin and other crypto with instant fiat settlement. Used by major retailers (Microsoft, AT&T, Newegg). Also offers a Visa prepaid card for individuals.

How it actually works

Merchants integrate BitPay API or hosted checkout. Customer pays crypto; BitPay converts to fiat or chosen crypto immediately; merchant receives settlement. BitPay Wallet is the consumer wallet for users; BitPay Card is the prepaid debit card option.

What it means for you

For HNW users buying goods at BitPay merchants, the operational flow is mature and reliable. For merchants accepting crypto as payment (business income, donations), BitPay simplifies tax handling by converting to fiat immediately. Less consumer-facing than Crypto.com or Wirex; more of a payments infrastructure layer.
