Plain English
Strike is a Bitcoin-first payments app founded by Jack Mallers in 2019. Uses Bitcoin and the Lightning Network for fast, cheap international payments. Available in the US, UK, EU, and parts of Latin America. Particularly known for instant USD-to-Bitcoin remittance corridors.
How it actually works
Users send USD; Strike converts to Bitcoin in the backend, sends via Lightning, converts back to local fiat (or kept as Bitcoin) on the destination. Sub-second settlement, fees of fractions of a cent. Also provides BTC purchases and Bitcoin payments for merchants.
What it means for you
For HNW users with international payment needs (especially to Latin America, Africa, or Asia), Strike offers significantly cheaper and faster transfers than wire transfers — often pennies vs $50+ wire fees. Bitcoin-only design limits use cases but the corridors that work are operationally superior.
