Plain English

Bittensor is a decentralized machine-learning network launched in 2021. TAO is the native token (often called “Bitcoin of AI” within the crypto-AI thesis). Operators run AI model subnets that compete to provide value; those producing the best outputs earn the most TAO emissions. Yuma Consensus is the unique reward distribution mechanism.

How it actually works

Each subnet specializes in an AI task (text generation, image generation, time-series prediction, etc.). Validators evaluate miner outputs and rank them; rewards flow proportionally to ranking. Subnets have their own economic dynamics — some are highly active, others nascent. Halvings on a 4-year cycle similar to Bitcoin (capped supply at 21M TAO).

What it means for you

For HNW users with conviction on the crypto-AI thesis, TAO is the leading single-token allocation. Trade-offs: high volatility, complex network economics, and significant subnet performance variance. Position as a thematic concentrated bet, not core holding. Operating a subnet requires technical expertise and capital.
