Plain English

Paxos Trust Company is a regulated stablecoin issuer founded in 2012. Operates under New York DFS trust charter — the strictest US framework. Issues PYUSD (for PayPal), USDP (Pax Dollar), and previously BUSD (for Binance, discontinued in 2023 after NYDFS order).

How it actually works

Reserves held in segregated accounts at US-regulated banks, fully backed by cash and short-dated Treasuries. Monthly attestations published by Withum (audit firm). Strong on regulatory compliance — discontinued BUSD voluntarily following NYDFS guidance. Also operates Paxos itBit exchange (smaller US CEX).

What it means for you

For HNW users wanting maximum regulatory comfort in stablecoin choice, Paxos-issued stablecoins (PYUSD, USDP) carry the strictest US regulatory framework. Liquidity is lower than USDC and USDT but the trust-charter standing is meaningful for institutional and high-balance holders. PYUSD particularly relevant for users on PayPal/Venmo ecosystem.
