Plain English

Toncoin is the native token of TON (The Open Network), originally developed by Telegram before regulatory pressure forced it to spin off. The open-source community continued the project; Telegram later integrated TON directly into its messenger app, giving the chain near-instant access to 900M+ users.

How it actually works

TON uses a sharded proof-of-stake design that can scale theoretically to millions of TPS. Wallets and payment flows are embedded directly into Telegram chats. Mini-apps inside Telegram (gaming, payments, commerce) drive most of the on-chain activity. Notcoin and Hamster Kombat were the breakout 2024 examples.

What it means for you

TON is the most distinctive consumer-distribution story in crypto. For HNW positioning, the bet is on Telegram’s integration deepening over time. Holding TON also unlocks utility inside Telegram — paying for ads, gifting Premium subscriptions, native commerce. Stake TON via validators for ~4–5% native yield.
