Plain English

Cash App is the consumer mobile money app from Block (Square), Jack Dorsey’s company. Bitcoin-only crypto support (no other coins). Significant Bitcoin Lightning Network integration — users can send and receive over Lightning instantly with no fees.

How it actually works

Bitcoin trading fees vary by amount and are visible at trade time, typically 1.5–2.5%. Users can withdraw BTC to self-custody. Cash App is one of the largest non-exchange Bitcoin custodians by user count, with millions of casual holders. Available primarily in the US.

What it means for you

Cash App is the simplest US on-ramp for Bitcoin specifically. For non-traders and people just starting to allocate small Bitcoin positions, the convenience is real. Fees are too high for active trading. Recommend withdrawing meaningful balances to self-custody — Cash App is a payment app, not a long-term custodian.
